weekly curiosities no.4

waiting for fireworks!
best happenings}
 my "little" brother came to visit us for laborday weekend and it was grand! we watched fireworks on the river last sunday and went out to eat at A Tavola for dinner on monday, and played settlers late into the night. it was so good to have him here and to hear about his life lately. i miss him so much!

also, on tuesday i decided to have an impromptu yardsale with friends this past saturday. it was definitely worth it, but it was some Hard Work.

thankful for}

our sunday night group starting back last night. we have been off for a month because our leaders took a monthlong trip to seattle to visit family and friends. but we had group last night and it was so unbelievably good to be with likeminded friends and to have life poured into us.

my datenight with C this friday! i have a surprise date planned and it's going to be FUN!!! i can't wait to write about it-- but i have to keep it quiet until friday. secrets are so hard!

walking out to pasture
at the farm}

some of you will be happy to know that the fox is no longer with us. he was beautiful and small and was left with his dignity to lie in peace.

C and i went out to the farm last thursday to begin the long learning process of milking a cow. it was odd and awkward and boy is sheila a trooper. we are going to go for a second learning attempt this tuesday night-- somehow we have to figure out how to get sheila the cow to the milking area in under 30 minutes. wish us luck!

i am also going to try my hand at making some butter today or tomorrow. it looks fairly easy, but i'll post how it turns out.

best recipes}

caramel popcorn- if you haven't noticed, it is officially fall now. even if it is still 95 degrees out. the month now ends in "-ember" which equals falltime. so i made caramel popcorn today to take to my friend's birthday party. and boy is this stuff good.

almond flour pancakes- YUM. and they don't leave you with that gross carb-loaded feeling afterward either. so yummy and actually pretty good for you!

best new restaurant}

C planned a wonderful datenight for us this past saturday. it was just what i needed after a long hot day selling things at our yardsale! we went to a new indian place called mantra on the hill. we ordered the most amazing cheese naan and chicken tikka masala. i knew i liked indian food, and i've had chicken tikka masala before, but this was the most flavor-filled dish i have ever eaten! the only down side was that it was swankier than we thought it would be, and our waitress snubbed us a bit. but the food alone is worth the trip! maybe we'll get take out next time!

  1. Glad to hear the fox went on his way but with dignity intact. ;) I can't wait to hear how the surprise date goes.
