weekly curiosities no.5

hello all!

ohmy it has been a crazy two weeks. i'm sorry i am so late on the update, but between C and i both coming down with a bad cold and overscheduling last week (we've learned our lesson) we had little time to see each other, which definitely meant no time for blogging!

best happenings}

at moonlite gardens for the concert!
our secret datenight! i took C to the Over The Rhine new album release concert last friday night and it was so fun! we are big fans of the band, and absolutely love their newest album-- meet me at the edge of the world. it has a great folk music feel and the lyrics make my heart so full i cry just about every time. talk about poetry in music!

we were both a little sad that the concert was last friday night-- the timing was pretty bad between C starting to feel ill and the week that would just not give us a break-- so i don't think we would have gone if i hadn't pre-purchased the tickets. but it turned out great and we felt so encouraged and filled up when we left-- sometimes only good music or poetry can do that. and oh did we need it!

also! i got to have a unexpected twohour chat with my college best, E, and that was grand!!! i'm always so happy to hear her voice. what a treat!

most thankful for}

my kind and considerate husband who showed me love by helping me around the house this week while i was couch-ridden.

BEING ABLE TO TASTE FOOD AGAIN! i made pumpkin muffins for our small group on wednesday and couldn't taste or smell them a bit. i kept asking C if they were good?? i still ate one in an attempt to enjoy them. but it just was spongeymoist in my mouth.

at the farm}

oh the cows!
C and i made our third attempt at milking sheila-the-cow and it was 1000000x's better this time! for one, she was in a closer field, so we didn't have to walk as far. two, she just came right over to the milking stall and stood still the entire time, even when she'd finished her grain! i've never seen that happen! she didn't step in the milk and we got about half a gallon to take straight home. i was so proud of us and her! we got in and out of there in about thirty minutes, which was a record for us!

because we finished milking so fast, we still had enough daylight left for me to show caleb the little piglets that were born two weeks ago! here's a link to the video i took:

little flopsy-eared piglets!

best recipe}

moist pumpkin spice muffins -- these are the ones i made for small group. they are so great (i've made them before when i had taste). i can't vouch for the frosting recipe, as i copped out and used canned cream cheese frosting. still good!

- you were not made for comfortThe world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” a great article! thanks to my friend renee for posting this! it completely changed my outlook on the week.

- what if we're the ones that need saving? : "And so amongst the ruins of my old theology, rich and poor, old and young, Americans and Guatemalans, we broke bread together and shared the cup together and together we caught a glimpse of the kingdom of God."

- maybe we need to need : "But when are we allowed to be  tired? When does someone pick us up? I wonder if we are leaving the church because what we need is to put on yoga pants and have some tea and really see each other. "

- sending our kids to a poor school : "Education is important, and my kids are getting an excellent education, but I'm only now starting to see the ways I have set this up as an idol, holding it above things that are far more important."

- inhale tragedy, breathe out beauty : "We can not always breathe in. We must often breathe out. The most effective way to process and heal from pain, whether individual or corporate, is to serve others."

news on the liquid front}

this is C's official last week working at NG! he will be going full time working at Liquid starting next monday, which is something he's looked forward to for a while now. it will be so great for him to not have two full-time jobs! i'm excited to have him be able to focus on working on what he's passionate about and back and fully present in my life!!

ALSO! C and his business partner J were interviewed by the local NPR two weeks ago and it will be airing on cincinnati's NPR at 6:30 & 8:30am next thursday! so if you are in our area, tune in! if not, i will have a link to the web article next week sometime when it comes out.

wishing all of you a week of resting in Him-- no matter how many unexpected things happen!

  1. i'm glad you liked that article too! i read it on a particularly "uncomfortable" week, so it really struck home for me.
